Etiquette of Sneezing and Eating

It is Sunnah of the Prophet PBUH that if a Muslim sneezes to say “Al-Hamdu Lillah”  which translates to "Praise be to Allah". The person who hears a Muslim sneeze should say  “Yarhamuk Allah”  which translates to "May Allah have mercy on you".

When a Muslim begins to eat, he/she should start by saying “Bismillah”.

Prophet PBUH said: "When one eats then he should start with the name of Allah ‘Bismillah’.  If you forget to say Bismillah at the beginning, then say, ‘Bismillah Awalahu wa Aakhirahu’ at the end or whenever you remember during the meal. The translation is "In the name of Allah in the beginning and end".

Prophet PBUH said: “Shaytan partakes in the food if the name of Allah is not mentioned at the start of eating. However, if one forgets ‘Bismillah’ in the beginning and then remembers and says the aforementioned Dua during or at the end of meal, Shaytan is made to vomit out what he had eaten”.

It is reported that, the Prophet PBUH never found fault with food. If he liked it, he would eat it, but if he disliked it, he would  just left it. 

أَقُول قَوْلِي هَذَا ، وَأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّهَ لِيَ وَلَكُمْ ولِسَائِر الْمُسْلِمِي ، فَاسْتَغْفِرُوه ، إِنَهُ هُوَ الْغَفُور الرّحِيمُ.

Please sit down for a moment

بِسْمِ اللّهِ ، والْحَمْدُ ِلّهِ ، والصّلَاةُ والسّلَامُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللّهِ ، صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَم

We should always be thankful to Allah for whatever He has provided us with. When we finish eating, we should always remember Allah and be grateful to Him, for He is the Provider and our Sustainer. We should express this gratitude in the manner in which the Prophet PBUH taught us.  Prophet PBUH  used to recite the following after eating food.  Translation: "All praise belongs to Allah, who fed us and quenched our thirst and made us Muslims".

عِبَادَ اللّهِ ، إنّ اللّهَ يَأْمُر بِالْعَدْلِ والْإِحْسَانِ وإيْتَاءِ ذِي الْقُرْبَى ويَنْهَى عَنِ الفَحْشَاءِ والْمُنْكَرِ والْبَغِي ، يَعِظُكُمْ لَعَلّكُمْ تَذَكّرُونَ . اُذْكُرُوا الَ الْعَظِيمَ يَذْكُرْكُمْ واشْكُروهُ يَزِدْكُمْ واسْتَغْفِرُوه يَغْفِرْ لكُمْ واتّقُوهُ يَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ مِنْ أَمْرِكُمْ مَخْرَجًا. وَأَقِم الصّلَاة

إنَّ الْحَمْدَ لِلهِ نَحْمَدُهُ وَنَسْتَعِينُهُ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُهُ ، وَنَعُوذُ بِاللهِ مِنْ شُرُورِ أَنْفُسِنَا وَمِنْ سَيِّئَاتِ أَعْمَالِنَا ، مَنْ يَهْدِهِ اللهُ فَلاَ مُضِلَّ لَهُ ، وَمَنْ يُضْلِلْ فَلاَ هَادِىَ لَهُ،وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ

اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ وَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنْتُمْ

مُسْلِمُونَ

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوا رَبَّكُمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ مِنْ نَفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ وَخَلَقَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا وَبَثَّ مِنْهُمَا رِجَالًا كَثِيرًا وَنِسَاءً وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ الَّذِي تَسَاءَلُونَ بِهِ وَالْأَرْحَامَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَيْكُمْ رَقِيبًا

يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُو اللَّهَ وَقُولُوا قَوْلاً سَدِيدًا * يُصْلِحْ لَكُمْ أَعْمَالَكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَمَنْ يُطِعِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَقَدْ فَازَ فَوْزًا عَظِيمًا

اما بعد:
إنَّ أَصْدَقَ اْلحَدْيثِ كِتَابُ اللّهِ وَأَحْسَنَ الْهَدْيِ هَدْيُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَشَرُّ الْأُمُوْرِ مُحدَثَاتُها وَكُلُّ مُحْدَثَةٍ بِدْعَةٌ وكُلُّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلَالَةٌ وكُلُّ ضَلَالَةٍ فِي النَّار
